Hyrum's 2yr B-day

Hyrum turned two last saturday!Hyrum has brought us a lot of laughter and we're so greatful to have him! It seems like such a long time ago that we were going to Primary children's hospital 1x a month and dealing with surgeries for his cleft! He still has one left... a bone graft for the gumline when he is 6. But, I can at least pretend we are done! Hyrum is a very "opinionated" child (that's what we like to call it). He knows EXACTLY what he wants! If he wants a movie... it's a specific movie! Cereal...a specific kind. I even have to let him pick his shirt because he gets mad if it's not the one he had in mind! ;o) you get the picture! He definitely has a temper to match his hair, but he is also such a sweet little boy. he gives me kisses and hugs, snuggles at night. He'll even play nicely with brayden so that i can take a nap! I often think about how if we'd lived in "pioneer days" hyrum would not have made it! Most of you know his birth story, but here it is anyway! My water broke at 36 weeks (a month early). But delivery went fine and he was a 7lb 4oz baby! However, upon delivery we discovered he had a cleft lip and pallate... not such a big deal... i was at least familiar with clefts and new it was fixable. He also had a hole in his lung, so they quickly took him away from me and he was hooked up to a bunch of stuff in the special care nursery. On our last day there, the air that was escaping his lung caused his lung to collapse. We were life flighted to PCMC in Utah and stayed there for a week. I feel like it was an out-of-body experience. But, he got better quickly and we came home with no more problems (other than normal cleft issues). I am so thankful for the technology we have!

Trip to Georgia

We got back a week ago from our tip to Georgia to see my mom's side of the family. Here's what we did!
DAY 1 (Thursday)The first couple of days we spent with family. It was fun to see my grandma and the cousins. (pictures at gma's)Right when we got to Augusta we went to this crazy pork restaurant (Scanyers) that my mom LOVES! (pictures to come)It has a pig head hanging on the wall and when i was younger i was told that all the metal stuff hanging from the ceiling was all the pig slaughtering tools. Basically it made me want to barf to eat there! ;o) So, thurs. we had our first taste of"southern barbeque"
DAY2 (Friday). We spent the day at my Uncle's house. Hyrum loved playing on this fun bouncing horse. We also went to the South Carlolina border so that my brother-in-law, kyle could get a pic of the SC and GA signs. We also did some fishing in my uncle's stream with some bread. Of course i had to prove my fishing skills and went for the no bait approach.... and i caught one!(pic to come)That night we had a big family party and my uncle's company catered and guess what we had.... more barbeque and hash. What is hash you may be asking... well it looks like dog barf poured on rice. we took a picture for all of you who have never been to the south.(it's the light brown/reddish blob at the bottom of the plate)
DAY 3 (Saturday) In the morning we headed to the beach house. After about an hour of driving my parents lost a tire! This also happened to them on their long drive from Nebraska to Georgia! They knew the other tires were bad, but when they called the rental agency with the first blown tire , the rental guy said he wouldn't pay to get 4 new tires.... needless to say they called him again and got all 4 tires replaced! The funny thing was name of the rental place was "rent-a-wreck"! HA@! It was saturday, so NO tire places were open. We pulled up to Goodyear and they said, "we closed 5 minutes ago." so we asked if any other places were open on saturdays... they said no! Can you believe it! So, they drove on the donut the rest of the way! That night we went for a walk along the beach and my brother caught a crab, and I saw a little jellyfish glowing in the water. pretty cool.
Day4 (Sunday) we all packed up for church. it was actually a really nice ward and the teachers were great.
Day5-7 (Mon-Wed)In the mornings we would go out when the tide was low and you could dig your toes in the sand and bring up sand dollars and sea shells. we found a lot and i brought some home to glue to a picture frame. then i can put a pic of all of us at the beach (if one got taken of all of us! oops). While we were there we went on a dolphin tour and actually got to see a lot of dolphin... too bad the camera and my reflexes aren't fast enough to catch a picture of them! But we did get some video and a few pictures of fins. oh well. If there is ever a place to stand in line, there is also these things that spray mist. Hyrum loved just standing in front of one of them while we waited to get on the boat. We also went to the movie, "Dark Knight". Freaked me out! Especially with the whole Heath Ledger going crazy thing! I can see why. He just scared me every time he was on! The only bad thing about the trip was the jelly fish! Because the water is warm (which made it even more fun) it attracted the jelly fish. My little bro. got stung a few times, a couple of sisters got stung, dallas got stung, and i got stung. It had started to rain and dallas got stung. I said i was going back to the beach house so i wouldn't get stung. he said, "it's not that bad! you'll be ok. the sting goes away fast." so... i went in. not 5 min. later i got attacked! i felt a sting on my ankle, so i kicked. well... apparently i kicked it up at my arm. another sting. then i started jumping around (in a freaking-out sort of way) and got stung on my knee, other ancle/leg, and my thigh. so i ran out of the water. I did as told and rubbed wet sand around, but the life guards had just left, so i couldn't get any spray from them. I started to head home when i saw some lifeguards. I flagged them down and they sprayed me and asked why i was hugging the jelly fish. ;o) ha! apparently i got stung worse than dallas and my stinging lasted a few hours. Well.... after being home for a week they flared up again and it felt like i had just gotten stung AGAIN! So, i got some cream from the DR. that is slowly helping. While we were in GA, dallas decided to buy a skim board and ended up coming home with a raw calf. He biffed it quite a few times, but he still had fun doing it!
DAY 8 (Thurs) That night we had a little b-day party for me and hyrum. We had it a bit early so that my mom could be a part of Hyrum's b-day since she lives so far away.
DAY 9 (Friday) To end the trip we started our day of traveling (on my b-day) at 3:30am (GA time-2hrs ahead of idaho). we had a 4hr drive to the airport, 3hrs to Denver, 1 hour to Salt Lake, and then another 4hr drive to Idaho(traffict). We got home about 9:00 Idaho time! A LONG DAY! Hyrum screamed the 3hrs to denver, but did good on the second flight, because the flight attendents played with him. However... i will take that over what my parents came home to! Let's just say... the dog got in the house! ;o( Just so you know, this post will get some more pictures added because i didn't have my camera for Scanyers or the fishing... so as soon as my sister gets them to me, i will post them!
